In the quest for eliminating all rear rubber bushings for the best suspension response and driver feedback, we have created a maintenance free spherical bearing conversion as well as development and testing of a application specific push/pull bushing removal toolset to do the job on the car.
We also figured out a way to rearrange that toolset to press in the bearing housings by hand. As seen in episode 15 of the YouTube build series.
Forces from driver input such as acceleration, braking or turning, load the OEM rubber bushings with these forces and they will snap back in the opposite direction with an equal and opposite force.
That can be unpredictable and unexpected by the driver. When we use solid bushings, and bearing joints to eliminate all of the OEM rubber bushings and rubber joints in this project car, the response at the tire to driver inputs increases when forces are applied such as entering a drift smoothly and when exiting the drift the car will do so with predictability and stability.
That makes drivers feel like the car is an extension of themselves. Additionally when lowering the car or just from normal suspension travel the rubber bushings have a surprising amount of uncontrolled progressive spring force acting upon the suspension while bearings allow the suspension to be more sensitive to bump response, increasing traction.
When aftermarket coilover suspension is used, you are in complete control of compression and rebound character without the OEM bushings undermining your suspension adjustments.
Get our push-pull toolset (sold separately) which is capable of removing and installing the OEM bushings weather you would like to do the swap with the the knuckle on or off the car.
Gold anodized 6061 aluminum housings loaded with bearings retained with lock rings (for ease of replacement should you ever need it).
Housings get tapped or pressed into the OEM bushing locations after freezing for 45 minutes.
