Cushion the Contact Zone
- Cover Bolt Heads: Kart seats often have exposed nuts or protruding bolt heads on the upper stays that gouge and crack hard composite rib vests. Replace standard hardware with low-profile, flat-head seat bolts.
- Apply seat padding: Stick 5mm adhesive neoprene or closed-cell foam patches directly onto the inside areas of the seat where your ribs make contact.
- Use edge trim: Put rubber edge-guard stripping along the top rim of the kart seat to soften the sharp edges.
- Add a shell barrier: Apply a layer of heavy-duty, clear heli-tape (polyurethane protective tape) directly onto the high-wear areas of your rib protector's outer shell to absorb scratches.
Fix the Seat Interaction
- Eliminate lateral slide: If you slide sideways inside the seat, the hard shell will repeatedly slam into the sides. Use thinner seat inserts to lock your body securely in place.
- Adjust driving posture: Ensure your harness or vest straps are tight enough so the protector moves with your torso, rather than shifting independently against the seat shell.
